Marking Your Game Winning Shot:
8-Ball Adult Handicap Division
It is a requirement of the American Poolplayers Association and The Greater Scranton APA that all members of the adult 8-Ball Handicap Division mark the pocket of their game winning shot. Simply calling out your shot may not be sufficient to constitute a win!
Some common guidelines about marking your pocket:
Pocket markers from either playing team are
community markers
. Whether they are unique or not, they can be used by both teams on a game winning shot.
You do not have to touch or move the pocket marker if the pocket marker is already placed on your intended pocket.
There should only be one pocket marker on the table during your game-winning shot to avoid confusion
Place your pocket marker as close to the intended pocket as possible without interfering the shot.
The 8-ball does not have to go clean into the intended pocket.
You can mark your pocket with anything that is deemed to unique and appropriate, and signifies the intended pocket you are shooting at. We encourage each team to "get creative" on what is used as a pocket marker, and to use common sense when selecting a pocket marker!
Items that could be used to mark a game winning pocket are:
Official APA Pocket Marker
Your wallet
A sentimental picture of family or friends
Car keys
A business card
A cigarette lighter
A small trinket or token
A team shared mascot pocket marker
Anything within reason
Items that cannot be used to mark a game winning pocket are:
Currency (paper or coin)
Cue chalk
Bottles and/or beverages
Bar tokens redeemable for a beverage
Food
Anything that makes fun of, degrades, or offends the opposing team
A lit or unlit cigarette/cigar
Weapons
Unreasonably sized pocket markers
Any item that could possibly damage the playing surface
Please use common sense when choosing a pocket marker. If you are unsure about what IS or what ISN'T allowed in respect to pocket markers, please contact the League Office and we will assist you!
